Short Games Are Quietly Winning

Short Games Are Quietly Winning

September 29, 2026 · Marta Kowalczyk

I used to chase huge games with hundred-hour timelines. Now the games I finish and remember are the short, complete ones. Hollowreach took me an afternoon and I still think about it.

There's something clean about a game that knows when to end. No endless daily login, no fear of missing out, just a story with a start and a finish. It's a rare shape for a mobile release, and I wish more studios trusted it.

The trade-off is you have to price these fairly and let them go. But as a player, finishing something feels better than perpetually maintaining something. My phone has enough obligations already.

If you've been feeling burned out on games that never close the loop, try a short one this week. It's a small reset that does wonders.
